Bands that will rock your face: Iron Maiden

An oldie, but goodie. If you haven't leant an ear to these men yet then you just aren't living. We are definitely Maiden fans and Josh had the chance to see them live the other day. You can give a listen on their Myspace if by some act of God you haven't heard them yet. Otherwise, dig through your playlists and pull them out. Happy Monday.

Subtext Show: "Beasts of Burden"

Both Josh and I have a painted YOKA Panda Bear in "Beasts of Burden," a show being put on by Subtext and Cardboard Spaceship. The roster of artists is insane and you can see Josh's bear on the flyer image above. My bear is so amazing that it's still blank so... yea I gotta get on that. Opening reception is Friday July 25th from 6-10pm. More posts/reminders to come. Hope to see you out there.

More info to show up on Subtext's and Cardboard Spaceship's sites respectively.

BANDS THAT WILL ROCK YOUR FACE: The Señors of Marseille

I have a really good friend, Matt Swope that I went to high school that is absolutely amazing on the piano. We used to go to his house and name a random punk song and he would bust it out piano, it was pretty awesome. And he also played at my wedding so when he finally formed a band I HAD to write post about him and his band. He is in a three piece ( it could just be two but I think they have a drummer now) band called The Señors of Marseille. It's hard to compare them to anyone because I truly think they have an original sound. Also I just did a tee design for them that turned out pretty sickle. Check them out and if you live in New York go see them play I am sure it's a blast.

Artists We Love: Raymond Biesinger

Raymond Biesinger is an illustrator who I ran across in WIRED magazine not too long ago and then again on the interwebs today. Raymond has a lot of editorial work on his site that includes spots for the New York Times, WIRED, NYLON, Business Week, and many others outside of the U.S. He has a great style with a lot of texture and that screen-printed look we love.

Looking for some neat prints?

A friend recently asked me if I knew of a good place to get some decently-priced art to fill the barren walls in his house. So, I sent him to the Gallery Nucleus online store. The site carries so many prints of all different types of contemporary art and illustration. Gallery Nucleus is also an actual gallery in Los Angeles and they do some really rad shows. Get them wallets out.

More info to come soon and Colby is painting one but is lagging hardcore. Everyone should email him and bug him, maybe even punch him up a little so he stops sitting around doing nothing.

Sites that Feed us: Manystuff.org

Hey Jolby, where can I find some inspiration for strange designs by foreign designers to stretch my mind and my way of approaching a project? Manystuff.org, of course. Updating daily, Manystuff catalogs links to designer portfolios around the world that always inspire us. I usually stop in to find strange grids, odd color palettes, and definitely different printing process that I might not be thinking of. Enjoy.

Work shown by UK-based designer Michael Bader.

Apple WWDC Coverage for Monday

A lot of people know that Apple's World Wide Developers Conference is happening this Monday, June 9th. For those of you that don't, these conferences are where Steve Jobs gives his keynotes that unveil new Apple products each year (last year was the iPhone). This year's rumor is that the 3G iPhone will be revealed amongst a few other things.

If you're as antsy as we are to see the next great thing from Apple, there's a site that live blogs Steve Job's keynote and refreshes every some-odd seconds, bringing you the absolute latest from his presentation.

For once, Mondays won't blow.

JOSH MISSES CALIFORNIA

So if you didn't know my wife and I moved to Chicago almost a year ago and it's been amazing but this morning for some reason I really missed some weird but meaningful things from home. Here is a short list of things that Chicago doesn't have that I am dying to have right now haha.

1. Old Fashion Donut - For some reason everyone in the mid west LOVES Dunkin Donuts and I have no idea why. They could possibly have the worst selection and flavors of donuts on the planet. All I want is a hole in the wall donut shop that you can get a dozen donuts in a pink box with the name and address stamped on the top of the box. Mr. Donut I miss oh so much. F U Dunkin Donuts

2. Tem's BBQ - If you live in San Diego, CA and have never been to Tem's BBQ then you are missing out on one of the greatest treasures that city has to offer. It's a Chinese bbq restaurant that has a whole bunch of stuff but they have one thing and one thing only you should order the bbq pork. It's like an angel giving you a hug in the form of bbq pork over rice with more bbq sauce poured on top. If I could open a Tem's BBQ here I would quit designing.

3. The Ocean - I have lived my whole life in California and always within a short drive to the beach. Don't really have the luxury of that here because the so-called Beach here doesn't smell, sound or feel anything like a beach. If anyone wants to bottle up some ocean water and send it my way I'll buy you some Tem's.

So, of course I love where I live but sometimes you need those little things that make life awesome. Have a good Tuesday oh and if you live in San Diego I hope the weather is terrible like it is here. =)

"Wolf Am I" Zine

It's finally drawn, printed, bound, and cut. This 24-page zine is a random collection of my thoughts and drawings that otherwise would not have gotten out. That "Tree-Head" illustration above is Josh's contribution to the zine. My goal is to get these into the hands of as many people as possible. Check out the full zine here and pick one up for $6 (includes shipping).

Monday Morning Bliss

Oh, Wheat Thins. You are my delicious snack. So buttery, salty, and scrumptious. You wouldn't mind if I put some deli sliced chicken on you, would you most majestic Wheat Thins? You wouldn't mind if I laid cheddar cheese onto you, would you? Mmm so wheaty.

JOLBY WORK: Lots of News

Lots of news in Jolby world this week so get ready. If you saw the post from yesterday our website is almost done thanks to one of my best friends Chris Forrette who is doing an awesome job. The site will feature design work that Jolby has done along with art projects that we both have done. We will still keep the blog going and hope to get Sketchle weekly running properly. We just finish the first collection for Automatic Satisfaction and hopefully will be able to post some of the tees very soon. Now for shows, Colby and I just got confirmed for a show at Subtext for Feb 21 - March 22 2009, I know it's aways out but that gallery is booked all the way till then and it will be our first show. We'll have more info on as it develops. Colby and I are both apart of Beast or Burden at subtext on July 25th, 2008, we will be painting custom vinyl panda bears. Should be really fun since both of us have never done this before haha. We are also doing MSL Gibson Guitar Project again this year and we'll have the dates the guitars will show at warped tour as the project develops. And last but not least I am apart of a group show at Subtext called Indelible: Expression of Ink on Paper on August 8th, 2008. I am super honored to be apart of this show since some of my favorite artist are apart of it as well. I'll post one of my pieces very soon, I am stoked on what my brain has been coming up with. Ok thats all I think of but keep checking back and tell your friends about the wonderful world of Jolby.
