What's Up Jolby?

Colby moves to Portland a week from Sunday (yikes!), a few pieces in a London art show curated by the kind folks at Its Nice That, a duo-show at Subtext in early '09, Josh's Indelible work is still up for grabs so go buy them, the same with my drawing show pieces, Josh's tee is on the rise, and Josh and I become Jolby in daylight within a few weeks. Write us! Say "hello," or "you guys smell like pooh," or even "hey I think you are cute will you take me to Quizno's?" We're down with all of that.

Pretty colors by Andy Gilmore.

Get Out Your Wallets: Sixpack France

I am super picky when it comes to buying tees online, and especially  overseas, but I stumbled upon this amazing online store selling works from cool kids like Steven Harrington, Cody Hudson and Parra. Because its Frenchy-oh-la-la it's pricey and in Euros, but you def won't find these goodies anywhere else. They also have books, jackets, rare prints and other gnar goodness. Enjoy.

Opening this Weekend: National Forest Show at Subliminal Projects, Los Angeles

If you frequent our blog, chances are you've heard of the unstoppable National Forest duo that is Steven Harrington & Justin Krietemeyer. They have a show opening this weekend at Shepard Fairey's Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles, CA. It's called "Somehow, We All Seem Connected" and it's a must see for any designers/illustrators in the LA area this weekend. I want to make it up, but it doesn't seem possible with all of the move activity going on. Clicky here for more details on this amazing show. Send us pics if you happen to make it!

Artist We Love: Charles Harper

I have been with my wife for almost nine yrs( married for 1 yr) and over the years as I have become a designer and now as I am doing illustrations I try to share my loves for design and art with her and for the most part we like the same styles of art. I have to say as a designer, illustrator, artist what ever it may be one of the coolest things is to have someone close to you discover an artist that they think will inspire you or see through that artist how you see the world.

Recently my wife was in a store and came across a book about Charles Harper and she asked if I have ever heard of him before and unfortunately i hadn't. But once she showed me some of his work online I knew who he was. I started digging a little more to learn about this incredible artist and it has changed my life (art wise). He truly captures the wildlife and portrays them in such interesting ways the simple shapes transform the whole piece. Change out some of his amazing pieces below.

Thanks Shannon =)

JOLBY WORK: Indelible Show still running

The show I was in at Subtext Store is still running through the rest of the month. If you get a chance you should stop by. All my pieces are still on sale there as well. Thanks and have a good Monday.

Colby Work: Milo Shoe Install

I just finished these little wacky things that are going to be cut out of a giant sheet of metal and installed in the Milo Shoe Store & Gallery in San Diego. The full piece is 5' wide by 10' tall and should be pretty gnar once it's up. Bells & Whistles is doing all of the fabrication. They make some pretty neat stuff. It was hard working with only silhouettes to illustrate these creatures the right way, but I think it came out well and represents the shop's atmosphere.

Back From Portland...

...with Voodoo Donuts in my belly. Yes, that donut is covered in Captain Crunch and Crunch Berries. Looking forward to the move.

That's right my wife and I are going to Bali, Indonesia this October. We are so stoked to take a vacation/journey to what looks like an incredible Country. If anyone has ever been or knows anyone that has gone we would love any advice, cool things to do, retreats for yoga/meditation, pretty much anything to help us plan our trip. Thanks have a good day

Pics from the 8th Annual Drawing Show

My 4 pieces from this weekend's 8th Annual Drawing Show in Pacific Beach. It was an awesome show with a great turn out. Beasts of Burden went really well too. Thanks to the Ice Cream Man for hooking that show up.

Draplin: "Why America is Fucked Graphically"

Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co. is an amazing designer. He can be seen above about to speak his mind on the state of Graphic Design in America and all of the missed opportunities we all gag at each day. Watch this clip, "Why America is Fucked." Its so true.

A sketchle from something that could turn into something, but could stay as nothing.

the 8th Annual Invitational Drawing Show

Along with Subtext's Beasts of Burden show, I will also have work showing in the 8th Annual Invitational Drawing Show this weekend on Sunday July 27th from 1:00 to 4:00pm. I painted 4 pieces for the show that are really personal in subject (you'd never know by looking at them I guess) and they're framed all fancy so I'll post pics after the show. The location is Earl & Birdie Taylor/Pacific Beach Branch Library 4275 Cass Street San Diego, CA 92109. Yea... "library" doesn't read that fancy, but this gallery is a gem tucked behind all them books's. Hope to see you there.
