To Portland I Go

Abby and I leave tonight to fly into Portland and hunt for rentals for our move date in September. We're super excited, but still completely stressed and on the brink of insanity haha. We'll be staying with my amazing family and meeting up with some friends as well. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Pics from the 8th Annual Drawing Show

My 4 pieces from this weekend's 8th Annual Drawing Show in Pacific Beach. It was an awesome show with a great turn out. Beasts of Burden went really well too. Thanks to the Ice Cream Man for hooking that show up.

Draplin: "Why America is Fucked Graphically"

Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co. is an amazing designer. He can be seen above about to speak his mind on the state of Graphic Design in America and all of the missed opportunities we all gag at each day. Watch this clip, "Why America is Fucked." Its so true.

Sketchle Wednesday

A sketchle from something that could turn into something, but could stay as nothing.

the 8th Annual Invitational Drawing Show

Along with Subtext's Beasts of Burden show, I will also have work showing in the 8th Annual Invitational Drawing Show this weekend on Sunday July 27th from 1:00 to 4:00pm. I painted 4 pieces for the show that are really personal in subject (you'd never know by looking at them I guess) and they're framed all fancy so I'll post pics after the show. The location is Earl & Birdie Taylor/Pacific Beach Branch Library 4275 Cass Street San Diego, CA 92109. Yea... "library" doesn't read that fancy, but this gallery is a gem tucked behind all them books's. Hope to see you there.

Bands That *Might* Rock Your Face: Maps & Atlases

And I wrote "might" because Maps & Atlases isn't for everyone, but their energy and talent is a enjoyable dose once you take it in. Yesterday marked the release of their second album called "You and Me and the Mountain." On this release the gents have taken their music to a new level compared to their first effort which was a very sporadic collection of sounds and feelings.

Adding a folk influence, to me, it sounds like this: If you took The Shins, kicked James Mercer in the gnards to get his voice higher, and gave the entire band way too much coffee, you would end up with "You and Me and the Mountain." Check out the album on iTunes and buy it for only $5. However, you should taste-test them before you get all willy-nilly with that wallet Mr. Fancy Stache.

I Met the Walrus

Brilliant.

Jolby Work: Andy Frasco tee

For Andy's latest tour, and to go along with these super gnar tees by Josh, Andy wanted a tee that was light-hearted and silly. Pick up yours when you see Andy on tour with Steel Train. Congrats Andy.

Bands that will rock your face: Iron Maiden

An oldie, but goodie. If you haven't leant an ear to these men yet then you just aren't living. We are definitely Maiden fans and Josh had the chance to see them live the other day. You can give a listen on their Myspace if by some act of God you haven't heard them yet. Otherwise, dig through your playlists and pull them out. Happy Monday.

Subtext Show: "Beasts of Burden"

Both Josh and I have a painted YOKA Panda Bear in "Beasts of Burden," a show being put on by Subtext and Cardboard Spaceship. The roster of artists is insane and you can see Josh's bear on the flyer image above. My bear is so amazing that it's still blank so... yea I gotta get on that. Opening reception is Friday July 25th from 6-10pm. More posts/reminders to come. Hope to see you out there.

More info to show up on Subtext's and Cardboard Spaceship's sites respectively.

BANDS THAT WILL ROCK YOUR FACE: The Señors of Marseille

I have a really good friend, Matt Swope that I went to high school that is absolutely amazing on the piano. We used to go to his house and name a random punk song and he would bust it out piano, it was pretty awesome. And he also played at my wedding so when he finally formed a band I HAD to write post about him and his band. He is in a three piece ( it could just be two but I think they have a drummer now) band called The Señors of Marseille. It's hard to compare them to anyone because I truly think they have an original sound. Also I just did a tee design for them that turned out pretty sickle. Check them out and if you live in New York go see them play I am sure it's a blast.
