"Shelf Life" Opening

Shelf Life at Together Gallery opened last night and it's an awesome show. Thanks to the Together family for the invite and for letting me do the window display for the show. More pics here. Happy Halloween kids. Anyone doing anything redick?

We are also searching for a San Diego videographer for a top-secret-you-dont-have-the-security-clearance-on-a-need-to-know-basis-gnar project. Email us if you know a dude or girly that fits the description.

BANDS THAT WILL ROCK YOUR FACE: Emery's New EP

I believe this is the first time we have posted about a band twice, but it's is worth it I promise. Emery is a rock band that has a little bit of everything. Colby and I have been fans of this band for many years and we both agree that what we have heard from there new EP "While Broken Hearts Prevail" sounds like that best album yet. You can listen to two new songs on their purevolume page. I would suggest listening to "The Smile, The Face" first, it's a great representation of the bands sound and the screaming in it is amazing. Buy the cd don't steal it.

Parra X Incase X Arkitip

Parra, Amsterdam-based illustrator of awesomeness, shows off his new collab with Arkitip and Incase where they produced a iPhone case and 15" MacBook case with his art. Check the video for a nice dose of Monday inspiration. Always great to get inside the heads of other artists.

JOSH WORK: New Piece

I am making a zine inspired by my trip, the patterns and traditions of Bali. This piece is entitled "Where Am I" and is a mix of the idea of nature and tradition that inspired me so much while I was there. You can click on the image to see it bigger. Also the zine will have little clips from my wife journal as she documented the trip. She is an amazing writer and its going to add alot to it which I am stoked about. Stay tuned!

Colby: 2 New Pieces

Here are 2 new pieces I just finished for the "Shelf Life" show called "There is Something" & "Inside of Me." Both of these 12 x 12 pieces will be framed and hung side-by-side in the show. I've been really focused on opposites in my work lately and like how these turned out. Click each for a larger view.

Jolby Work: "Shelf Life" Show

Josh and I have been invited into the "Shelf Life" show, a show celebrating art, design, designish art, and arty design at Together Gallery in Portland, OR. We have a few pieces going into the show and I'll be making a window display for the show as well. Opening reception is October 30th, 6-10pm during Portland's Last Thursday art walk. Hope to see you there!

Back from Bali

That's right my wife and I got back to the states Friday after being in the most amazing place for two weeks. Bali was the best trip we have ever taken and it was super sad to leave. Even now as I type on a computer in the morning it seems foreign since I feel I should be starring over rice fields eating fried rice for breakfast. If you didn't get a chance to read my wife and I blog you can check out what we did at here. Also I am thinking about making a little zine of the inspiration and patterns I found while I was there accompanied by my wife's writing she did.

Other news a great friend here in Chicago just launched his food focused blog called Eat Feats. Shane like me loves to eat, so he decided to start a blog to follow his belly and the places he finds.

Also as Colby said we are going to be starting on our show for Subtext very soon so hopefully we will have some update son that in the near future.

"Graphic design and fine artist Cody Hudson is the latest artist to partner with Upper Playground to produce a Barack Obama print. There are 50 prints made that are signed and numbered by the artist, and retail for $200. The limited-edition 18" x 24" prints available exclusively online." We want this.

A Link for your Face: HandMadeFont

Being lovers of hand-made type, we are into what the guys at HandMadeFont are up to: "We specialize in developing unique, untraditional fonts. We take inspiration from everything that surrounds us. On this website we offer completed fonts that you can buy and use freely." They are also available to "develop new and unique fonts" for whatever you please. Dong it up.

House Industries @ Subliminal Projects LA

House Industries, better known to us as "the gods of type," are having a gallery showing at Subliminal Projects in L.A. November 8th - December 5th. Make sure to check it out if you're in the L.A. area. Hmmm... seems like a lot of agencies that do both traditional design and illustration are showing their work in galleries. Quite the trend of awesomeness.

Josh & Colby's Show at Subtext, San Diego, CA

As soon as Josh finds his way back from Bali, we're going to start work on our show at Subtext in San Diego that debuts in February. This will be our first "solo" show together and we can't wait to start posting some of the pieces. We've got a pretty deep theme started and some gnar ideas. Mark your calendars. Spacey photo via Fecal Face.

Wine & Shit.

Every time I walk through the wine section in a store I always skim the labels to see what I like (not to drink, but for the design of the label). I usually find 1 or 2 that I like, but this one especially caught my eye. Nice!

Project Runway Final Collections

Even though the finale hasn't aired yet, you can still view the Bryant Park collections from 6 of the designers on this season's Project Runway right here. I wouldn't say that I'm a huge fan of Project Runway, but it is by far the most creative reality show on T.V. and I can relate to a lot of the designers on the show. I think Leanne's amazing collection is going to take it home. What do you think?

Steven Harrington's "Our Mountain" in the house

My signed copy of Steven Harrington's "Our Mountain" book and his latest Dunny just arrived and they are collectively blowing my mind. The book is very nicely designed by his brother John and is a collection of Steven's iconic art that he's done over his career. A must-have if you're fans of Steven's work like we are.

YouWorkForThem Updates

Josh and I are huge fans of YouWorkForThem. Not only the work that they do, but all of the goodies that they sell. They carry a great selection of reasonably-priced products including: hand-set and traditional type faces, posters and zines from great artists, a library of art books, tees, and lots more. They recently updated their site's look and it's cleaned up the navigation a bit in the process. This is definitely a resource worthy of a bookmark. Check it out.
